Jaheem Harrera woke up April 16 without and appetite and wanting to forfeit the school day. Later that evening, his mother and sister found him hanging from a belt in his closet. He was eleven-years old.
According to CNN reports, the boy's mother Masika Bermudez recalls his strange behavior and reluctance to go to school that tragic day. She was relieved to see him return home from school excited about the report card he brought home. The fifth grader was an A and B student at Dunaire Elementary School in DeKalb County, Georgia.
Bermudez described the day she found her son hanging. She thought Herrera was in better spirits and didn't sense anything was wrong when he went to his room while she prepared dinner. Bermudez and his younger sister called his name from steps to eat and got no answer.
